Bernd Beber is a Senior Researcher at RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, based in the institute's Berlin office. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at New York University and a research fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, where he continues to hold a visiting appointment. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University. His work focuses on the political economy of conflict and development, the role of international institutions in fragile societies, and the causes and consequences of migration, with a focus on causal inference and sub-Saharan Africa. He has served as co-principal investigator for field projects in Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sudan and South Sudan.
