Katrin Hirseland has been Vice President of the Federal Office in Nuremberg since August 2022. After studying political science and Japanese studies in Tübingen, Seattle and Kyoto, she was initially a project manager in the area of integration and social cohesion at the Bertelsmann Foundation. In 2003, Ms Hirseland moved to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (then the Federal Office for the Recognition of Foreign Refugees, BAFl). As a consultant in the area of integration, she worked, among other things, on the working staff of the Expert Council on Immigration and Integration chaired by former Bundestag President Prof. Dr. Rita Süssmuth. From 2008 to 2012, she headed the departments "Federal Integration Programme", "Public Relations Integration" and "Fundamental Matters of Integration" in the Integration Department of the Federal Office before taking over as Head of the President's Office in October 2012, while also acting as spokesperson for the Federal Office in parallel until the beginning of 2015. Since 2016, Ms Hirseland has been head of the management staff of the Federal Office, and from June 2019 she was also assigned the management of the Research Department.
