A presentation by Misato Sato (Assistant Professorial Research Fellow, Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, LSE). This event is part of the Sustainability Colloquium hosted by the Centre for Sustainability, and the Research Seminar on Environmental, Resource and Climate Economics (RSERC).
Join us for a talk by Misato Sato exploring the employment and environmental effects of US firms’ exposure to green and digital technologies between 2010 and 2023. Drawing on establishment-level data and a novel measure of technological adoption, this research uncovers key insights: green technology adoption generally boosts employment, though effects differ by sector; both green and digital innovations increase demand for high-skill workers; and digital technologies show no negative environmental impact at the firm level.
Following the presentation, attendees will have the chance to discuss and ask questions. This session will be moderated by Johanna Arlinghaus.
Speaker
Misato Sato is an Assistant Professorial Research Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, London School of Economics and Political Science. She is also Deputy Director of the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy, a Co-Editor of the Environmental and Resource Economics journal, and a DIW Fellow. Her research explores the barriers to delivering a rapid low carbon transition, particularly for industrial sectors. Much of her work evaluates the effectiveness of climate change and energy policies, and quantifies their impacts on firms’ environmental and economic outcomes using economic evaluation methods. Misato Sato is also interested in measuring how the low-carbon transition is changing the demand for skills in the labour force.
