Markus Klimmer is a management and policy consultant. He was the Founder of McKinsey’s Public Sector Practice and, as a partner of the firm, a member of the Global Public Sector Leadership Team. In 2008, he was appointed as a special envoy for Foreign Secretary Steinmeier and acted as his chief economic advisor. In 2010, he became a Senior Partner and Managing Director of Accenture. Since 2016, he has been acting as Special Advisor to Austrian Federal Chancellor Kern.
Markus Klimmer has worked extensively on the transformation of governments, specialising in technology-driven change. He is a recognised expert in digital government. He has worked for governments in more than 40 countries around the globe, and a number of international and non-profit organisations. Markus Klimmer’s recent publications include Digital Leadership – how Germany’s Leaders scope Digital Transformation (Springer, 2016). He studied political science, economics and public law at the London School of Economics, the University of California Los Angeles and Universität Hamburg. As an Austrian Citizen, he was made a “Kommerzialrat” (Privy Council) in 2008.
In addition to his work as a consultant, he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bauhaus (Archive and Museum), Chairman of Villa Aurora/Thomas Mann House Los Angeles, and a Board Member of Komische Oper Berlin.
