Michael Jakob holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Technical University of Berlin and has obtained degrees in physics, economics, and international relations from universities in Munich, St. Gallen, and Geneva. His research interests include climate change mitigation in developing countries, the political economy of climate policy, the interlinkages between environmental policy and human well-being and socially just mobility transitions. Michael has published extensively on these issues in well-regarded academic journals and has recently edited two books on the political economy of coal and the relationship between trade policy and climate change. He has also advised numerous governments, international organisations as well as NGOs and has served as contributing author to the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report. Michael is a Senior Fellow with the Ecologic Institute in Berlin and a Fellow with the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change in Berlin.
