Lynn Kaack spoke at the closing of the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris

On 11 February, Lynn Kaack, Professor of Computer Science and Public Policy at the Hertie School, spoke at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris. Kaack provided closing remarks at the Forum for Sustainable AI held by the Ministries of Territorial Planning and Ecological Transition, an event aimed at discussing the intersection between AI and environmental sustainability.

Gathered at the Grand Palais, Heads of State and Government, leaders of international organisations, CEOs, representatives of academia, NGOs, artists and members of civil society came together to reflect on one of the most transformative technologies of our time.

In her speech, Kaack emphasised that measuring and reporting the energy needed for inference is critical. Advocating the move of AI solutions from research into practice, she also argued that task-specific, predictive AI is much more applicable to solve sustainability problems than generative AI.
