The Russian invasion of Ukraine and related surge of international fossil resource prices as well as the possibility of fossil energy trade disruptions is a fundamental challenge to European Union energy and climate policy.
What are the core elements of this challenge? What are EU short- and mid-term options for responding to them? Does the current crises suggest slowing down the implementation of the Fit-for-55 package, or does it reinforce the case for it? How to ensure social balance in the current energy crisis as well as future climate policy efforts?
These questions will be adressed by a panel of distinguished speakers:
- Ilaria Conti, Head of Gas at the Florence School of Regulation, European University Institute
- Radu Dudau, Co-founder and Director, EPG/Associate Professor of International Relations, Bucharest University
- Lion Hirth, Assistant Professor of Governance of Digitalisation and Energy Policy, Hertie School
- Michael LaBelle, Associate Professor, Central European University
The debate will be moderated by Christian Flachsland, Professor of Sustainability and Director, Centre for Sustainability at the Hertie School.
