MPP, MIA and PhD Graduation 2019

Congratulations to the Class of 2019!

The Hertie School today paid tribute to 210 master's degree graduates and 10 doctoral students at its annual graduation ceremony at the Konzerthaus Berlin, with around 1000 guests in attendance. Pascal Lamy, President of the Paris Peace Forum and former WTO Director General, held the commencement speech, and Hertie School President Henrik Enderlein presented the graduates with their diplomas.

As experts in public problem-solving, Hertie School graduates pursue careers in government, administration and international organisations, as well as in companies, foundations and non-governmental organisations. In the course of their studies, they deal, among other things, with governance and political decision-making in globally interconnected, multi-level systems. In a playful scientific analogy, Pascal Lamy offered his personal take on governance to the Class of 2019. Good governance delivers leadership to give direction to action, legitimacy for the support of those governed, and coherence for a steady course of the community, he said.

President Henrik Enderlein congratulated the graduates, saying: "Be smart. Be ambitious. Be responsible. If you understand the world around you, you can become architects of change."
