A presentation by Herwig C. H. Hofmann, Professor of European and Transnational Public Law at the University of Luxembourg and Head of the Department of Law. This event is part of the Fundamental Rights Research Colloquium under the "Algorithmic Fairness for Asylum Seekers and Refugees" cluster hosted by the Centre for Fundamental Rights and co-organised by Dr. Mirko Đuković, Centre for Fundamental Rights, and Prof. Cathryn Costello, Centre for Fundamental Rights and University College Dublin.
Herwig C. H. Hofmann is Professor of European and Transnational Public Law at the University of Luxembourg and Head of the Department of Law. Professor Hofmann is a member of numerous international and national scientific organisations and is a member of the scientific boards of several legal journals. He was the University of Luxembourg’s first Professor of Law (2004) where he was also founder of the Centre for European Law (2006) and founder of the Robert Schuman Institute for European Affairs (2015-2021) a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. He has also served as Head of the Research Unit of Law (2006-2011) and as Head of the Department of Law (since 2020). The European Commission also awarded him a position at the University of Luxembourg in 2012. Jean Monnet Chair in European Public Law in European Public Law.
The 2025 spring semester colloquium is co-hosted by the Centre for Fundamental Rights and the research project "AFAR: Algorithmic Fairness for Asylum Seekers and Refugees", funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. This 4-year collaborative research, investigates the use of new technologies in migration and asylum governance. The research colloquium is co-organised by Dr. Mirko Đuković, Centre for Fundamental Rights, and Prof. Cathryn Costello, Centre for Fundamental Rights and University College Dublin. There are 28 students entitled to the certificate of colloquium.
