The networks of globalisation - information, finance, production - were long viewed as sources of peace and prosperity but are increasingly sites of coercion. In this talk, Professor Abraham Newman will explain how and when the US can channel the infrastructures of international markets into geopolitical weapons. In addition to explaining this source of these powers, Newman will examine how the new Trump administration is deploying these tools and what allies, in particular Europe, must do to prepare for a transforming economic security environment.
This event is co-sponsored by Georgetown's BMW Center for German and European Studies and the Hertie School. A reception will follow the lecture.
