Mais Hreish works in international development in security capacity building in Northeast Syria. She has worked with various NGOs committed to the Palestinian cause and human rights including Adalah and PEN America. Mais has also worked at the UN with a Security Council NGO and subsequently at the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations. She holds both a Bachelor of Human Rights and a Bachelor of Classical Music Performance - Flute from Bard College in New York. Mais also holds a Master’s Degree in Flute Performance from the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin. She tours internationally as a professional flutist with various orchestras in renowned concert venues, amongst them Carnegie Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, Staatsoper Berlin, Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the Wiener Konzerthaus.
