Joel holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of Chicago and has over nine years of experience in higher education administration at universities in the United States and Germany. They are fluent in English and have intermediate level German, as well as past language study of Russian and French. They are responsible for the coordination of the master's thesis, internship requirement, course evaluations, and skills workshops.

Die Hertie School im Herzen Berlins und Europas ist eine international renommierte Hochschule für Politikgestaltung und gute Regierungsführung. In Masterstudiengängen, Doktorandenprogrammen und Executive Education-Kursen bildet sie Führungskräfte für Politik, Wirtschaft und Zivilgesellschaft aus. Unter dem Leitgedanken „Understand today. Shape tomorrow.“ forscht die Hertie School international, lehrt praxisnah und gestaltet ein Forum für die öffentliche Diskussion. Sechs Kompetenzzentren stärken die Expertise der Universität in den Bereichen Europa, Internationale Sicherheit, Grundrechte, Nachhaltigkeit, Digitale Steuerung und Datenwissenschaft. Die Hertie School wurde 2004 von der Gemeinnützigen Hertie-Stiftung gegründet und wird seither maßgeblich von ihr getragen. Sie ist Mitglied der Europäischen Hochschulallianz CIVICA, ist staatlich anerkannt und vom Akkreditierungsrat sowie vom Wissenschaftsrat akkreditiert.
